Trip Overview

Karbakeli eco trek, explored in April 2018 and opened for Nepalese tourism market from 18thof May, 2018, is one of the freshly discovered Annapurna trekking trails which is close to the famous viewpoint, Poon hill. The trekking was initiated by Karbakeli Conservation Committee with a concept of co-operation.

Karbakeli links Poon hill with Beni Bazaar (market), headquarter of the Myagdi District. Main attraction is the Karbakeli Thaan (Temple) of Karbakeli baba (God of indigenous community, Pun Magar). Magar community pray and show respect to Karbakeli Baba, as chief God in the earth and the temple of Karbakeli Baba is located in Kaphal Danda at Annapurna Municipality Ward no. 8 and this Kaphal danda is also known as “Ramchan Kulchan Danda”. The temple is situated at an altitude of 2,332 meter.  The statue of Karbakeli Baba is Golden coloured and the Thaan (temple) is surrounded by prayer flags which makes the temple area a peculiar one.

Though the area is dominated by Magar culture, however; there are Tamang, Thakali, Damai and other ethnic communities as well and live peace, co-operation and harmony spreading peace and happiness to the mankind. One can explore the culture, custom, lifestyle and the traditions of magar community which they have kept alive. Spectacular view of South Annapurna (7219 m), Dhaulagiri (8167 m), Nilgiri(7061 m), Tukuche Peak (6920 m) and others can be viewed while you walk through the rhododendron (national flower of Nepal) forest. The nexus of biological diversity, flora and fauna, art and culture and rural lifestyle makes this trek a special one. Local people of the area have established a tourism management committee to support, guide, develop and promote the tourism. Thus, one can certainly have a different experience of trekking for their lifetime.

Detail Itinerary

  • Day 1 Jeep Drive from Pokhara to Birethanti, hike to Ulleri.

    On this very day, we will take a taxi from Pokhara to Nayapul. Nayapul is a trailhead for the trip. For the first few hours we walk through the gravel road passing through a number of villages on the way. On the way lies Birethanti, a check post whereby we need to show the permits for the trek. Most part is easy, gradual uphill climb. We can see the farms and small villages lifestyle on the way. In the middle of the afternoon we get to Tikhedhunga and after few minutes of continuous walk we get to Ullehri where we rest for the overnight

  • Day 2 Trek Ulleri to Ghorepani, 5 hrs walk

    On this day we will begin the trek steeping up and up gaining lots of elevation one step at a time. On the way, you can see donkey’s carrying stuffs for the villagers. The view get better and better as we climb higher and higher. You can view the Annapurna mountain and snow covered mountain throughout the way that energizes us to walk more.After walking through the rhododendron forest whereby small river flowas by the side, you are welcomed by Ghrepani Entrance point. Ghorepani is a beautiful and small village.

  • Day 3 Trek from Ghorepani – Poonhill – Phulbari – Karbakeli

    Early in the morning we hike to poonhill to see the fascinating view of Annapurna range. After visiting the Poonhill the journey heads towards Karbakeli which roughly takes about 5hrs which is a scenic walk. The temple of Karbakeli is located at Kafaldanda at the elevation of 2200 m above sea level. There is a statue of God Karbakeli baba and his two wives Himala and Fimala as well as two sons Ramchan and Kulchun. During this trek, we get chance to explore local culture, custom, tradition, flora, fauna, and way of life.

  • Day 4 Trek from KarbarkeliThan – Ramche – Nagi – Falamedanda

    On this day, the trek goes through indigenous community, Magar settlements like Ramche, Nagi from where we can have the closest view to Annapurna and Dhaulagiri mountain range.The day delights with the remarkable landscapes, traditional houses, orthodox settlement and organic farm till you get to the Falamedanda. From Falamedanda, you can have a nice view of the settlements and landscapes and stay overnight.

  • Day 5 Trek Falamedanda – Mallaj – Beni, Trek and Jeep Drive, Beni – Pokhara

    On this final day, you can see the historic place, former Durbar (Palace) currently converted into the Resort. One can have a pleasing location and can enjoy the organic and tasty food. From Mallaj you can take a jeep or trek to Beni. Beni is beautifully located at the confluence of the Kali Gandaki River and Myagdi River. It takes around two hours to get back to Pokhara where your hotel warmly welcomes you with a smile.
