Call to protect Upper Mustang caves

Archaeologists and other concerned experts have pointed out the need to step up immediate measures for the protection of the archaeologically important objects found in many caves of the Upper Mustang. In course of its research study, a nine-member team of Nepali and foreign experts had recently observed the numerous human-excavated caves and overhanging complexes of the Upper Mustang.

Visitor arrivals go up in April

The Nepalese tourism industry continued to show upward trend even in the month of April this year. A total of 33,024 foreign tourists visited Nepal by air last month, according to the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA). As per data made available by the ministry, the Indian market rebounded considerably with 110% rise, while the non-Indian market shot up by 70%.

Teams climb peaks

Five members of the Kazakhstan-Russia 2007 Expedition team have successfully climbed Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) from the north-east ridge. Mr. Sergey Samoilov, Mrs. Svetlna Sharipova, Mr. Yevgeney Shutov of Kazakhstan and Mr. Sinev Dmitry of Russia climbed the mountain on May 1. Team leader Mr. Denis Urubko of Kazakhstan scaled the peak on May 2 according to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation (MoCTCA).
