TAAN organizes interaction with Tibetan travel agents

With the objectives of sorting out problems while handling tour to Tibet, especially the Kailash and Mansarovar Area, Trekking Agencies Association of Nepal (TAAN) organized an interaction programme on January 27, 208, with managing directors of two leading travel agencies in Tibet: Ngari Travels and Tibet International Sports Travel (TIST).

Before the interaction programme began, Professor Yin Xiangushuo of Fudan University, Shanghai, delivered a special lecture on Chinese Economy. Professor Xiangushuo who was on a private visit of Nepal was invited by TAAN for the lecture.

In the interaction programme, representatives of different trekking agencies raised the problems that they are facing while organizing groups in the Kailash and Mansarovar area. Regular increase in handling charge, visa related issues, issues while transferring luggage at Nepal-China border and others were raised and discussed at the interaction programme. Trekking agents also asked whether Tibet would stop handling groups in 2008 because of Beijing Olympics.

Mr. Tenzing Norbu, managing director of Ngari Travels and Mr. Jigme Wangchuk, managing director of TIST answered the queries raised by Nepalese trekking agents. Mr. Jigme also informed that the Tibetan government was blacktopping road and constructing an airport in Kailash-Mansarovar area.

Earlier, TAAN President Jyoti Adhikari said that Tibet held great opportunities and prospects for Nepalese tourism professionals. 'This interaction programme has been organized to encourage new trekking agents and tour operators to handle groups in Tibet, Mr. Adhikari added.

TAAN also hosted a cocktail reception in the honour of visiting Tibetan delegates. « Back
