A trip to Nepal is incomplete if you have not been on a jungle safari. This sub tropical jungle offers an elephant safari trip over the dense forest where one can explore the wildlife activities. The rich wildlife habitat in this subcontinent is preserved which can be toured on 4WD or elephant back. Such safari trip can be organized in Royal Chitwan National Park, Persa wildlife Reserve, Royal Bardiya National Park and the Royal Sunklaphant Wildlife Reserve. Chitwan Safari
A relaxing wildlife safari in the Royal Chitwan National Park is the ideal addition to any trips adventure in Nepal. Located in the lowland south region of Nepal, it is the first of country’s national park. It is the abode of the interesting ancient ethnic groups such as the Chepangs in the mid hills, and the Tharu in the Terai region. There are opportunities to join guided jungle walks that search out deers, monkeys and other animals. One can have a canoe trip over Rapti River to view fish eating gharial and flesh eating crocodile. This national park is the home to rare one horned rhino, Royal Bengal Tiger, Crocodile and different other species of flora and fauna. The park has more than 50 species of mammals, 525 species of birds and 55 species of reptiles and amphibians.

The park can be reached either from Kathmandu or from pokhara at the end of any trekking adventure. Normally, you can have 2 nights 3 days program in Chitwan national park however it can be shortened to 1 night 2 days and lengthen to 3 night 4 days.

Activities: Jungle Safari on elephant back, Jungle walk, Canoe ride, Jeep ride, Observation of Tharu culture, Elephant breeding centre visit, Elephant bathing and  bicycle tour etc.

Itinerary Outline

Day 1 : Drive to Sauraha, Chitwan or Fly to Baharatpur and drive to Sauraha, transfer to hotel. After lunch canonying ride, bird watching and in evening time watch cultural dance (Tharu stuck dance)

Day 2: Village walk and explore Tharu Culture. After Lunch Elephant Safari and visit to Elephant breeding centre

Day 3: Morning time walk to the jungle and explore wild animals. After breakfast return to Kathmandu.

Bardiya Safari
It is situated in mid far western terai region of the country east of the Karnali river. The area was protected since 1976 and the area spread over 9968 square km. Several endangered wild animals including elephant, rhinoceros, tigers, swamp deers, black bucks, gharials, crocodile and even dolphins inhabit in the park. Furtehrmore, different species of mammals and birds can be viewed while visiting the park. The varied geographical factors together with the thick cover of Saal, savannath forests and grasslands is home to 30 different mammals, more than 250 species birds, and several varieties of reptiles and aquatic animals. A special ¾ days trip can be organized in order to explore the wild life activities. It is far remote and isolated than Chitwan national park that is why it has fewer visitors and lodges. Various jungle activities are available in the park however, the elephant ride is the best way to explore the wild activities. The best time to visit the park is autumn, winter and early summer when the weather is warm and dry.

Itinerary Outline

Day 1 : Drive or fly to Nepalgunj and drive two hours to Bardiya.

Day 2: Jungle activities: After breakfast half day walking in the forest. It provides opportunity to encounter Royal Bengal Tiger including many other wild animals.

Day 3: Full day activities: Elephnant riding, bird watching, canonying.

Day 4: Fly back or drive to Kathmandu

Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve
It spreads over Saptari and Sunsari districts in eastern Nepal, bordered by the eastern and western embankments of the Koshi river. The vegetation of the reserve is mainly grassland with patches of scrub and deciduous reverine forests. The reserve makes special is that many birds seen here are not found in other parts of Nepal. The reserve has nearly 440 species of birds, some of which fly all the way from Siberia during the winter. A wide variety of ducks, herons, storks, egrets, ibis, are seen on the riverbanks. Some other animals found here are wild elephants, wild buffalo, wild boar, hog deer, spotted deer, blue bull and jackle. Gangetic dolphin and Gharial crocodile are the other attraction of this reserve. The reserve is accessed either by driving to Laukahi on the way to east-west highway or fly to Biratnagar and drive to Prakashpur.

Itinerary Outline

Day 1 : Drive or fly to Biratnagar and tranfer to Koshi Tappu wildlife reserve. Check in at hotel and join for Lunch ant then go for bird view in the evening

Day 2: Wake up at early morning and guided nature walk and take breakfast after which wildlife rafting on Spatakoshi river. Lunch at river bank then drive to Koshi barrage and view the birds and dolphins.

Day 3: Explore the reserve by jeep safari and Lunch on the way and return in the evening

Day 4: Birdwatching tour in the morning, breakfast and then fly or drive back to Kathmandu
